What is a pipe contour marker used for?

A contour marker is a layout tool used to scribe accurate cut lines on pipe for joints including tees, laterals, wyes, elbows and crosses, at any angle. It replaces the need for complicated mathematical calculations or trial-and-error test cuts, giving fabricators a precise, repeatable line on the pipe surface ready for cutting and fitting.

What's the difference between the Standard and Jumbo Contour Markers?

The Standard Contour Marker handles pipe from 1½" to 18" diameter and structural steel up to 18". The Jumbo Contour Marker is designed for large-diameter pipe from 8" to 48" and comes with a web strap and built-in Dial Set Level. A Combination Adapter is also available for both models to extend marking capacity and allow use on small-diameter pipe, nipples and old welds.

Do I need the adapter as well as the contour marker?

The adapters are optional but recommended if you work across a wide range of pipe sizes. The Standard Contour Adapter permits use of all four sides of the marker and enables marking on small-diameter pipe, over nipples and old welds, as well as compound angle layouts. The Jumbo Combination Adapter extends the JCM's capacity for use on very large structural steel members up to 48".
